Night Songs
On summer nights, I like to sit on the rooftop. Getting up there, of course, is no cake walk. But once I am comfortably perched on the chimney (the one coming from the master bedroom), what a feeling! It’s like sitting on top of the world! The view is breathtaking: you can see the whole neighborhood and part of the valley below. And then, being high up, you can almost touch the moon!
I love the moon. I watch it slowly rise above the pines and chestnut trees. I watch it play hide and seek with the clouds. I gaze at its silver light casting longer and longer shadows and turning the whole world blue. But above all, I love to sing to the moon.
Tonight, I am going to perform once more the Song of my People. The only problem is that I cannot meow too loud because Mama’s bedroom is exactly one floor below, and she has threatened to shoot me down if I wake her up again with my “racket.” That barbarian cannot appreciate music…
“Luna,” Original Oil on Canvas. Just because she can’t sing doesn’t mean she won’t sing.
